Biography
Jose Antonio Murillo leads RappiCard Mexico since 2021. RappiCard is unlocking the potential of big data and technology to expand credit and transform the financial landscape of the region. During its short lifespan, RappiCard has validated 3 key investment hypotheses: first, more than 1.2 million customers with a very competitive acquisition cost has proven that RappiCard has the capacity to attract a large volume of customers at a low cost; second, CSAT metrics above 90% and the highest NPS metric among credit card companies in Mexico has shown RappiCard’s ability to retain customers with a pure digital product; third, RappiCard attained profitability at an early stage separating it from competitors within the industry.
Previously, Jose established and led the Analytics Business Group at Banorte which was the subject of multiple awards. His team was recognized as a success story within the data science industry. The value created during his tenure exceeded 4 billion USD. This case was published at Harvard Business Review and Forbes as an example of how analytics investments can pay-off. In addition, the Harvard Business School has written and taught a case study on Jose’s analytics and digital transformation leadership. He obtained the Lafferty Global Award on Credit Card Excellence for the impact of analytics on customer equity. Also, the artificial intelligence applications that he developed have been highly commended by the Global AIconics Awards.
Prior to Banorte, Jose was a top ranking official at Mexico’s Central Bank as Chief Information Officer -during that period he built the first public sector mobile app, created Mexico’s Beige Book and held the staff’s view on inflation for more than a decade at the Monetary Policy Committee. He was also an advisor to the International Monetary Fund and led missions to several Latin American countries. In academia he taught economics at Rice University, ITAM and El Colegio de Mexico. He holds a PhD in economics from Rice University and a BA from ITAM (Magna Cum Laude and recipient of Chamber of Commerce National Award and Tlacaelel National Award).
