Samuel Wang is Head of Corporate Communications at Synchrony Financial (NYSE: SYF), one of the premier consumer financial services companies in the United States. Mr. Wang has responsibility for external affairs, executive and internal communications, reputation management, corporate messaging, public relations, brand and advertising, social media, and corporate citizenship.   

From 2010-2014, Mr. Wang was Head of Corporate Communications at OppenheimerFunds, Inc., one of the nation’s largest and most respected investment management companies.

Before that, Mr. Wang was Acting Director, Global Communications & Public Affairs, North America Consumer Banking, Citi.  He was responsible for public affairs, media relations, executive and internal communications for Citi Cards and Citi Personal Wealth Management.  He served on the Citi Consumer Banking executive team that developed and managed a sustained communications and media engagement strategy during a period of unprecedented scrutiny, including passage of the U.S. credit card law in May 2009. He served as the Media Subgroup Chairman, Card Policy Council, American Banker Association, from 2008-2010.

From 2000-2005, Mr. Wang was Managing Principal, Marketing Director, The Capital Markets Company, a global financial services consultancy and technology solutions provider. He was Media Relations Director at Capital One Financial Corporation from 1997-2000, where he helped lead its positioning as an entrepreneurial industry leader and directed expansion launches in the U.S. and U.K. Before that, Mr. Wang held the role of Senior Vice President, International, at Robinson Lake Sawyer Miller, an influential strategic communications firm, where he served as public relations counsel to Fortune 500 firms, U.S. and Japanese industry associations, and foreign governments.

Mr. Wang started his career on Capitol Hill as Legislative Aide to a U.S. Congressman. He has co-written articles for financial services journals and has been a guest college lecturer on marketing, communications and reputation strategy.

Mr. Wang received a BA from Duke University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

He served on the Board of Directors, Duke University Alumni Association, as well as its Nominating Committee.  He is currently a Visiting Professor at Jimei University in Xiamen, China. He is also a Member of the Arthur W. Page Society, a leading global professional association for senior corporate communications executives
