The impact of COVID-19 on M&A activity

Until recently, M&A bankers were like cooks in the kitchen cooking up hotter and hotter deals. With recent deals like Visa buying Plaid, Intuit buying Credit Karma, and Lending Club buying Radius Bank, many anticipated a banner year of deals that would be a prime force to reshape the industry. But COVID-19 forced the cooks out of the kitchen and cooled down formerly red hot valuations. Now, as we are socially distancing, we are looking at the earlier deals, and project what the kitchen will be like the rest of the year.
