JazzCash, Pakistan’s largest digital financial services provider and part of the VEON Group, is transforming access to finance in one of the world’s most cash-reliant economies. By leveraging mobile network data and a fully digital experience, JazzCash is delivering instant, responsible credit to millions of underserved customers and small businesses – especially women, artisans and micro-entrepreneurs.
The Challenge
Pakistan is a largely cash-based economy with limited access to formal banking – around 18,000 bank branches serve a population of 240 million. Many micro and small businesses, as well as individuals (especially women), lacked credit histories, faced complex documentation requirements and were often forced to turn to informal lenders and loan sharks to meet every day working capital needs.
The Impact
JazzCash built a data-driven credit scoring engine using insights from both its 75 million GSM users and 54 million financial services customers. This powers instant, pre-approved, fully digital loans directly into customers’ mobile wallets, with fair terms, gentle repayment reminders and embedded insurance to protect against shocks like job loss or accidents. The solution is enabling home chefs, taxi drivers, shop owners, artisans and women-led businesses to start, stabilise and grow their livelihoods.
The Results
/ 170,000–200,000+ loans disbursed daily to micro and small businesses across Pakistan.
/ 54 million financial services customers now have access to a responsible, digital alternative to informal lending.
/ Creation of Pakistan’s largest financial data lake, enabling smarter, more inclusive credit decisions.
/ Tangible livelihood uplift for thousands of women and small business owners who can now access working capital at the moment they need it.
